Weekend Review 22nd - 24th June 2012

Hi there,

Well so much has happened this week in London City, that if i had to describe it with one word, it would be WHOOOOOOOOOOSHHHH!!!

To start with, London City would like to wish Second Life a very Happy 9th Birthday. x

Wow! 9 years and SL, has seen some major changes during that time.
This year the theme was community, something London City excels in.

Building an interpretation of London inSL on a 1024 meter parcel, with a 257 prim limit was tricky, but luckily for us our very own builder extraordinare, Mr Billy Arentire who took up the challenge. (For those of you who aren't builders, that's like trying to fit the whole of London onto a postage stamp).
Billy has taken some of the wonderful sites in London City, and recreated them to fit perfectly, with an eye for detail and wonderful Realistic HD textures, Billy has done us proud yet again.

Why not pop along and see for yourself, but hurry, it ends on 27th June!

Friday 22nd June 2012

This week my featured club is Substation, one of the newest clubs in London City, it has already carved a niche with it's quirky 1960's feel. It's the kind of place your Mum and Dad would have gone to. What a giggle, I went along this Friday to the "Best in Police" night, with host Coffee Queen , keeping the crowd lively, and Dj Bailey playing the tunes, it was a real mixture of fun and laughter.

Then on to Bar Soho, for dancing and chatting.

Club manager Wil Youngblood has  installed a " Guess the Lyric" machine. It gets everybody talking and furiously trying to get the right word, its so much fun ...and very, very addictive!

To close the night, we went on to Madame Lala's, always fun and friendly with a twist of wit. This place is a real good night out.  Friday saw DJ Fierce spinning the funkiest  tunes in London, this week was "best in Formal" and everyone turned out in their finest.. Who would have thought we would all scrub up so well !!

Saturday 23rd June 2012

Saturdays always sees a special guest on an especially built stage. The performers usually play to a jam packed Sim, so full in fact, people quite literally queue to get in and this weekend was no exception!

Glen Campbell's Goodbye concert.
Everyone came along in their "best in cowboy" outfits yeeeehaaaaa!! and partied right into the night, dancing and singing along with Glen.

Glen Campbell's career spans over 50 years. He is perhaps one of the best known country singers of all time, with hits like Gentle On My Mind, Galveston, Wichita Lineman, By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Rhinestone Cowboy.
Last year he announced that after many years suffering from short term memory loss, which was  the effects of Alzheimers's disease, that sadly his ability to perform and record music was coming to an end.
Throughout 2012, Glen has decided to do a worldwide Goodbye tour for all his adoring fans, to enjoy his music one last time. It is amazing to hear how he puts his heart and soul into every performance,
a true great that will be sadly missed.

Then just time to hot-foot it over to Lezbo, all this week saw Lezbo, which is a themed club, take on best in colours, each night the club is transformed into a new exciting scenario.

Yes, that is Yoda !! :P]

Sunday 24th June 2012

We all felt a little worse for wear on Sunday, all that partying can take it out of you, especially dancing singing, drinking and having such fun, but Madame Lala manager Bailey Saxmundham has just the ticket, The Sunday Smooth,
Smooth grooves are played to ease us back into the land of the living, if you like your tunes mellow, relaxed and soul full head over to Madame Lala's on a Sunday morning around 11 am.

Sunday afternoon was left for shopping round the fantastic stores we have in London City, plus there is a freebie shop with quality items in that is not to be missed.

So that's it from me for another week in the awesome London City number 1 SL destination, I'll see you in the week for more fun packed frolics.

Happy 9th Birthday Second Life

It's Second Life's 9th Birthday and as is tradition, London City has entered an exhibit that tries to capture the flavour of the entire estate in one little 1024 meter parcel with 257 prims :)

We hope you will visit our offering, at this location and we wish Second Life, Many Happy Returns.

The Weekend Review 15-17 June

All week we have had fun events at Worlds End, Substation, Bar Soho and Lezbo.

This weekend was simply marvellous, as is our way here in London City, cramming as much fun into the sim as is possible!

Friday 15th June 2012

We kicked off in Bar Soho, what a great night , everyone dressed in purple, for the "Best In" event, we all looked like a selection of Quality Street's "The Purple one" ...yummy, we danced as Dj Willy played the night away with great music.

It didn't stop there!
Next stop  Madame Lala's...

Madame Lala's has recently had a face lift (pity the old girl herself  didn't jump on that band wagon), going for a more vivid look, but still with the warm, snug atmosphere, DJ Fierce took to the decks for this Glam-Rock night, what a hoot, people dressed in their flairs and glitz and partied right into the night.

Saturday 16th June 2012

People arrived early in Regents Park to secure their place on the dance floor, knowing full well how packed the London City sim gets, they arrived in their droves, waiting for Adevina Citron to take to the stage.
No stranger to London City, this little lady packs a powerful punch singing LIVE. Adevina interacts with her audience between songs in an upbeat,  light hearted and  fun way, so every concert is different and you are never sure what you are going to hear from her.... Playing to a full sim, giggles all round accompanied by her great voice, if you have never seen this lady in concert, believe me you are missing out!!

Then on to Lezbo for a best in biker night, with great music and fun themes.

See you next time after another fun week in London City.

The Weekend Review 8 -10 June

Wow!! How fast has this week gone? It's zoomed by... And what a fantastic weekend in London city as always.

All week we had events at Bar Soho, Substation, Worlds end pub and Lezbo, all had contests and played great music, ranging from the 50's & 60's, Chart and Pop music, to Hardcore Dance, there really is something for everyone here, and that's what makes London City the Top Destination in Second Life, along with all the fantastic people and fun we have.

Friday 8th June

We saw the big opening of Madame Lala's, so to speak.
 New refurbishment, New manager.

Madame Lala's is based upon  Madame Jojo's 8-10 Brewer Street, Soho, London W1 - circa 1986-1990.

In the late 1980's, Revue Bar owner, Paul Raymond opened Madame Jojo's, named after its Filipino manager,  female impersonator Jojo.

By the early nineties, Paul Raymond and its Manager, Jojo, had parted company, but the name lives on to this day.

Madame Lala's is based upon the era of 1986 to 1990, when Jojo's was a "Club Extraordinare" with a nightly Revue act ranging from live singers to amusing cheap budget shows featuring the staff of the club.

The refurbishment has stayed true to the original theme of Jojo's but has been given a more modern twist  crafted by Ruby and Bailey.

As Torric  bow's out of the proceedings to concentrate on other New exciting London City ventures, Bailey who did a wonderful job in Bar Soho takes up the reins,  and put's a whole new spin on this already popular club.
Madame Lala on Baileys new post,  " Lala look's forward to watching Bailey work the club, it gives Lala more time to drink and sleep.".... Lovely isn't she :)

Woooo Saturday! Busy as ever in London City, people from all over the grid came to the  live show in Regents Park, it is always a good idea to get there early as the sim fill's to bursting point and this weekend was no exception.! There was a best in Black and White contest, where people came in their mono-chrome  outfits in hope of winning some Linden dollars, it's always fun to see the many different outfits in the same theme.

And then Live in Regents park Mika.

On stage around  9pm. Mika and his band  rocked it! He sang his awesome songs which included Love to day, Big girl, you are beautiful, Billy Brown, and many more, which the crowd loved and  sang along with.

It was great to have a brand new performer in London city, and I'm sure Mika will visit us again, so if you did miss out this time look out for him again very soon.

After the concert it was time to head over to Lezbo,
Lezbo opens 10:30 pm / 2:30 slt, and it is a club with a difference, each night the club is transformed into a different theme echoing the best in event. On Saturday there was a a best in 80's roller disco.

The whole club was whisked back to the 80's with a neon glow which was very popular back then, free skates were given to everyone who attended so we could ALL enjoy the fun. Later the contest was announced and lucky winners left with a handful of Linden dollars.

Sunday saw Lezbo take on a skateboard park, what a hoot, people looking like Tony Hawk, skateboarding like professionals around the club, it was awesome.

So, that's me done for another week in the awesome London City.
I'll see you next time after another fantastic week xxx.

The Weekend Already!

How wonderful, we can all carry on from where we left off :)

This Friday, join Roy, Rose and Coffee in Substation, playing 50's & 60's music from 11am SL (7pm UK).

Bar Soho will be playing its mix of the most recent dance tunes with some favourites from the past included for good measure.
Wil and his crew will open the doors at 1pm SL (9pm UK)

Madame Lala's is under new management as I bow out of the proceedings to concentrate on our other ventures.  Taking over the reins is Bailey who did a wonderful job in Bar Soho.  The brand new refit has been finely crafted by Ruby and Bailey and we cannot wait to see which direction this team chooses to steer the Revue Bar.

On Saturday, join us for Party in The Park from 12pm SL, 8pm UK.

Presenting a brand new concert for your enjoyment, MIKA, on stage at 1pm SL.

With prize for best in Black & White.

Mika first found fame in 2007 with his initial album, Life in Cartoon Motion.  This was later followed with The Boy Who Knew Too Much.  Both albums sold over 5 million copies each, earning Mika several Grammy Awards and making him one of the most successful British solo acts of this new century.

The Weekend Diamond Jubilee Review Tuesday 5th June

So, what did you do over the bank holiday weekend ?
If you weren't in London city ....Well lets just say you missed the kind of experience you would have wanted to tell the grand kids about...it was awesome!!! Record amount of people in the sim ( what do you expect? We are number 1 in second life destinations ya know!)
OK, OK, I'll tell you all about it ....Are you sitting comfortably?
HRH Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 60 years of rule this weekend, it was her Diamond Jubilee,  and always on form with current events, London City celebrated with her, we had street parties, open air concerts, special guests, themed events, prizes  and much much more....
Friday 1st of June
There was a buzz in the air, people arrived in their droves, full of cheer and in a party mood, they made their way to Regents park, to the Jubilee gardens especially created in honour of Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee, once here, not only were  they entertained with popular music from the last 60 years, there was  exclusive free gifts for everyone, followed by Friday night at the proms... up beat, classical music, this event is so popular and free to attend, what an amazing night, rounding off with more popular music and a fantastic best in red, white and blue event, where a lucky resident won fabulous Linden Dollars

Saturday 2nd June

..... well, I'm feeling a little worse for wear, after the huge party in the Jubilee gardens yesterday, what an awesome night... Just when you thought it couldn't be topped.... What do we pull out the bag to hit you with on Saturday???
Only the famous and talented MAPOO LITTLE!! 'ave some of that!!!
Mapoo Little  first started singing at the tender age of two years old. A British girl, from Sheffield aged 25, Mapoo has always had a passion for singing and believes that music can heal peoples pain. Mapoo has been told she sounds a lot like Anastasia ,Tina Turner and other famous stars but she's no pretender or emulator and she feels similarities are flattering but coincidental.
No stranger to London City,  Mapoo jumped at the chance to sing LIVE and  celebrate the Queens diamond Jubilee with the London City crowds, and another record night with people quite literally queuing to get into the sim, more free gifts and great music followed, right into the night ... No wonder London city is the number 1  destination in second life !

Sunday 3rd June

So... its Sunday ....I bet you're kinda thinking by now, they cant possibly have  done  anything else....It was  just going to be a quiet Sunday lazing around Regents park, a chat with friends in the hub, a bit of shopping in the fantastic shops around  London City, recovering from the previous 2 nights of awesomeness......WRONG!!!!

We whisked up more frenzy than you can shake a stick at !!! The sim was bursting at the seams again all Sunday!!

We kicked off in the Soho....Forget Doctor Foster in  Gloucester and puddles up to ya middles...pppffft!!

We only flooded the sim ( nods head ) oh yeah,  the whole of London City ....flooded!!

Hows that good i hear you ask .... Ordinarily I guess,  you could say something went wrong if ya sim floods ... but not Sunday, bring in the FLOTILLA!!!

All aboard the party boat... carrying on with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations we danced until our pixels hurt, what a hoot, people came from all over the grid to party with us ( London City being the top destination in the whole of Second Life! )

Dancing, Prizes, Gifts, Chatting all summed up in two words....FANTASTIC FUN !!!

Oh, and it didn't stop there!!

Later singing LIVE,  only the Famous and Talented Helvis Xue....

Helvis is known throughout Second life for his awesome live voice, not only singing Elvis greats,  but more contemporary songs with an Elvis twist!

Its a fantastic show and Helvis is a regular performer in London City, and it seemed right to have the King singing for the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee.

Monday 4th June ...

Cliff

So far we have had the best time ever, its been  a non stop Diamond Jubilee party here in London city,

This is a real life event, and has been celebrated throughout Britain and the Commonwealth.

Here in London city, we pride ourselves on following closely the real life events from around the Uk, and interpreting them into second life, so that people from all over the world can enjoy a virtual but realistic experience with us ..  We have all been involved in a snippet of history this weekend , that will long be remembered.

Today, Monday 4th June 2012, we join  with  thousands of people around the globe to celebrate  Queen Elizabeth II  Royal  Diamond Jubilee

The Queen was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary  of york at 2.40am on 21 April 1926 at 17 Burton Street, London. She was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, who were later crowned King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Princess Elizabeth acceded to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II on 6th February 1952 and was crowned on June 2nd 1953.

Here today, in Second life,  we celebrate her 60 years as our Monarch, with song, dancing and fun.

Grace Jones
Robbie
Shirley Bassey
Annie Lenox
Our concert in the Jubilee Gardens, is beamed live from the actual concert being held in London with Buckingham palace as the back drop, our very own Billy Arentire built a replica stage for the ultimate virtual experience and we had a right royal knees up.

We partied to the likes of Cliff Richard, Jessie J, Paul McCartney, Elton John and loads and loads of other stars.
Tom Jones

Gazza and Chezza
Queen Elizabeth spoke to the masses saying "The events that I have attended to mark my Diamond Jubilee have been a humbling experience." she said  "it has touched me deeply  to see so many thousands of families and friends celebrating together in such a happy atmosphere." she added " I hope that memories of this years happy events will brighten our lives for many years to come."

" I will continue to treasure and draw inspiration from the countless kindnesses shown to me in this country and throughout the commonwealth. Thank you all "

Tuesday 5th June ..

What a fantastic weekend, can you believe all we have done?  I've only listed the main events over this long weekend, we also had daily events in Bar soho, Substation, Worlds End, and Lezbo, each with a party atmosphere, and lots of happy people enjoying the festivities.

So as we wind down from all the hype and excitement, its left to one man.... A man who's time in England crossed with the Reign of Queen Elizabeth II. He came to the U.K 60 years ago ( can you tell who it is yet ?) He has writes songs, plays instruments, paints pictures, and he's  a T.V presenter amongst other talents.

He painted a portrait of our Queen Liz, and he tells that story to all who will listen, ( many times )
You've guessed it,  it's the one and only Rolf Harris.

Yes the ever popular  Rolf and his Rolferoo's came in to help close the celebrations to the Jubilee with a fantastic concert in Regents park.
Playing to a huge crowd Rolf sang his little heart out and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing... dressed in a loud Hawaiian shirt he played with his digeridoo for everyone's entertainment ... we do love Rolf here in London City .

So that's me signing out, for a well earned rest :) on behalf of the whole London City Team, We  hope you enjoyed our Jubilee weekend, and Thank you for choosing to spend it with us. You guys rock!!
I'll see you next time  after another fabulous week in London City xxx
