Margaret Thatcher

Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher died today aged 87.

She was Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990.

For those who had a few pounds she turned it into a fortune for them.  For those working in the industries she took their few pounds and turned it into pennies for them.

She sold off British Rail, British Telecom, The Electricity Board and all the Council Houses.  If you were in the right place at the right time during the boom years you would love her.   If you were in mining, nursing and many other public industries, you would probably loathe her.

Loved and loathed in equal quantities, Lady Thatcher put the Great back in Britain and for a brief time the UK was once again, at the centre of the world stage.

The marble statue we are exhibiting in London City hit the headlines in 1999 when a vandal used a cricket bat to knock her head off, saying "I think she looks better like that".

A bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher will be placed
in permanent memorium in The Houses Of Parliament in London City 3, where hopefully it will remain contraversial as the great lady herself was.
