New Victoria (London City3)

Two weeks ago we began an ambitious project to redevelop London City3, whilst it was fully operational and fully rented.

First of all, we would like to offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to over fifty merchants with stores in London City3 who helped us by moving their vendors in a timely fashion, enabling us to complete the region rebuild this week.  Also to thank the venue managers and Support Team for moving all of their kit to new locations.   This was a massive undertaking and we are pleased it has gone relatively smoothly without too much "junk" hanging in the air!

The reason for the rebuild of the Victoria region was to improve traffic flow, remove bottlenecks, update old original buildings and revert the terrain which has been causing collision problems for a couple of years!

The new layout enables us to facilitate a natural and more appealing flow and to accommodate more merchants wishing to have presence within the estate.   To this end, the hub area, previous located in the centre of the region is now located toward the north and enables us to make ten new stores in key locations available for the first time.

We hope you will enjoy our low lag rebuild and visit all of the clubs and attractions this region has to offer.  Of course the refinements are not totally completed yet.  Building a region is easy, adding the bits and bobs takes time!

Review of the Weekend

Goodness that weekend will take some getting over.

On Saturday Elle's fundraiser for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer raised over L7K to aid the charity.  The theme in London City3's park for a sock hop and you can be sure of another equally popular themed event next Saturday.   A big thank you to everyone who attended and donated.

After the Dorothy Squires concert (Video to come) Juiced was buzzing with a Teddy Bears Picnic theme night.

On Sunday during 'renovations' we said good bye to two of our classic ambience characters, Fanny and Wally, but we gave them a great send off.

Just hours later, grieving residents claimed to have spotted Fanny at Comptons dancing the night away.   We have put this down to mass hysteria.   We would never kill off characters just to bring them back in time for Halloween.   Would we?

Finally a big thank you to Sarah Tremor for sponsoring a super event on Friday night at Bar Soho donating many wonderful prizes to clubbers from her most excellent Edelfabrik clothing store which you can visit here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City3/228/108/24

We'll get the video up as soon as possible.  It's been one of those weekend where the time ran away from us.

Weather System revamp

During the summer we installed the London City immersive weather system.   A pioneering invention that instantly produced rain via a quick rezzing mesh prim instead of the old fashioned particle systems seen elsewhere in Second Life.

We asked if you would like to see it removed as the estate moves into autumn via a pop up poll at the weekend.

Those who expressed an opinion voted overwhelmingly to keep the system.

So for now the rain weather system will remain and we will begin work on the winter system.

Thanks for sharing your views and observations on how we can improve this experience.

This is an update of content located in the estate using Experience Keys.

Featured Destination Portals

A Teleport portal system that works on collision.  Each portal cycles its destination every minute and displays a hover text in the centre to say where the destination is and on which region.    This is also used to teleport agents to picturesque locations outside of the estate (with the consent of the owners of the featured locations).
Also offers a link back to the original point of TP with an offset of 5m to prevent the agent from landing on top of the portal triggering an unwanted teleport.

Regent's Bitter

Demonstration item.   A beer bottle that attaches and can be drunk whilst playing a sound.   This is an item intended to show Experience Tools Proof of Concept only and is an early example.

Treasure Hunt Hud

We are working on a HUD device to offer clues to locations of prizes.  When at item is found, clues to the next location will be delivered in a thin, non invasive ticker-tape strap at the bottom of the screen for 10 seconds.  This will be available by end of September.

Auto Brolly!

We're in the final stages of Automatic Umbrellas, triggered by the Weather Experience. This adds an additional layer of fun and realism.  No more getting drenched every time it rains.  Opt in to the experience and get a random coloured brolly to keep your avatar dry for the duration of the shower!

This and more, very soon.

Please contact Jessii2009 Warrhol or Gem Sunkiller in Second Life if you would like to get involved with the 2014 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer season in Second Life.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36.

Breast cancer death rates have been going down. This is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and better treatment. Right now there are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Breast cancer also occurs in men. The American Cancer Society estimates for breast cancer in men in the United States for 2014 are:

About 2,360 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed.
About 430 men will die from breast cancer.
Breast cancer is about 100 times less common among men than among women. For men, the lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000. The number of breast cancer cases in men relative to the population has been fairly stable over the last 30 years.

About Making Strides Against Breast Cancer:
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or MSABC is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting more than 300 communities to finish the fight. Lumiere - the dream of a northern popsicle

Lumia VanDouser owner of fashion brand Lumiere has relaunched her store with brand new designs.

We asked Lumi about her journey in Second Life.  From her first building to the brand that she now owns using the latest technologies:

"My friend is an amazing builder, who taught me to build from basic prims. This was the time when even sculpts were a new deal.
So I made a chair and got bitten by the builders bug!  I kept doing stuff, forgetting to name it so I have about 20 thousand items in my inventory called "object".

My friend asked me "Why don't you sell those?", and I thought, 'Yeah. Why not?'

I always wanted to look nice. Even if it was just in a virtual world. There's not much to wear for a plus size rockish punkish bohemic girl such as me, and even in the virtual world I was poor! So I thought - 'how hard can it be?'

Lumiere is a store where you can find detailed clothing and accessories even when you're on a budget.
There's always some items on sale, as gifts or just me being anti-business and giving few things away.

In the store you find the most recent items on a low rate and some old popular ones hanging about. "

"Here we are today, re-launching the store that I never knew would become a recognized brand. What started as a small brain-fart store on Marketplace, has developed into an overwhelming deal - in a good way.

To the loyal group members, supporting friends and people who offer help and store space,  I couldn't had done this without you. Thank you!

So welcome to Lumiere!"

You can visit Lumiere here and grab yourself a fantastic introductory bargain at a hugely reduced rate and join in the celebrations of the Lumiere brand relaunch! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City2/54/243/24

Revisiting Braunworth

A number of years ago London City bought a plot of land in Braunworth, an Infohub for new residents.

In the days of the Infohub boom, land was phenomenally expensive and the plot we were lucky enough to snap up was directly in line of sight where the new avatars were born.

With so many additional spawning areas being added to Second Life over the past 5 years, the importance of Infohub land has diminished and the land has devalued and we have to admit that our Braunworth land had become more than a little neglected.

So it was a fun project for us this weekend to revisit this place and build a new exhibit to dazzle the next generation of New Residents,  if they are lucky enough to touch down in the Braunworth Infohub.

Should be good for another 5 years :)

Visit it here:  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Braunworth/92/192/179
